RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) |
This is an award, which is given to plants and bulbs by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). It is given specifically to the bulbs shown on this site with the prefix AGM after their name because they have conformed to a set criterion lay down by the RHS. The RHS have grown these bulbs and have been happy that they have achieved the standards of the award (AGM) and by doing this they believe it will help gardeners to make informed choices about bulbs and plants.
In layman’s term it means that you are getting a plant which will perform well, is widely available and does not require professional or difficult growing conditions Plants and bulbs are generally categorised by hardiness i.e. weather/temperature conditions so H1 means they have to be grown in a greenhouse and H4 means they are hardy throughout the British Isles. The category that most of the bulbs on our site fit into is H4, that is they are hardy when grown outside, for items that are not so hardy we will indicate this in the description.
As noted earlier bulbs and plants are awarded the AGM after a trial period and with the expertise and knowledge of a wide range of members of the Society’s Committees.
Take a look at the RHS
website for more details.
We have included a number of the plants on our website which have been awarded the AGM, these can be found when searching for different bulbs varieties and is donated by AGM after their name.
