Camassia quamash (syn. esculenta) is one of our most popular varieties in this group. The flowers are a bright violet-blue growing on stems that are 60cm tall. Camassia are ideal for attracting bees, buterflies and pollinating insects into the garden. Camassia are very tough bulbs and are happy to be planted in soils that are less than perfect. They will endure soils that are heavy and poorly drained. Can be grown in grassland/meadow land areas or borders of the garden. Prefer to be in full sun but are also ok in semi shaded areas that has soil that is humus rich. Leave undisturbed from year to year for the best performance and they will self seed once established. Do not allow bulbs to dry out during the growing season.
Aspect: Semi to full sun but happy in the shade if required. Good to naturalise in grassland
Soil type: Free draining soils but also happy in the heavier poorly drained soils.
New season bulbs dispatched from September onwards
